Thing 1 – Habits of Lifelong Learners

By far, for me, both the most challenging and most important of the 7 & 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners is beginning with the end in mind.  Whether designing a lesson plan or learning to post a blog, I often get bogged down with the process, before establishing my goal.  This is particularly true if the process involves technology.  However, when I begin by thinking of the results I want, then I can create a logical, step by step plan.  Had I truly focused on getting this blog posted when I completed my registration with Edublog, I could have posted it an hour ago.

Which brings me to the the easiest or most resonant of these habits, the last:  play.  As educators, we often forget that children and adults learn through play.  Regardless of whether we are playing with a ball or a new computer program, we are more actively engaged through play.  Thus, I began to play with this site a bit before I got around getting this blog posted.  But I learned a lot in the process.  Uh oh, there’s that word again:  process.
